This time the author explains the characteristics of LED curtains, a supplement for low-resolution screens the same technology when you do not have a large budget.

The entertainment industry continues to evolve and surprise us every year with something new. The curtains LEDs, also called "frame" or simply "mesh"Today they are occupying an important place in the entertainment world.

What is it?

A curtain, plot or mesh LED is a succession of sets RGB LEDs with a certain distance, which can be 36 mm, mm 25, 16 mm or any other measure taken by the manufacturer.

RGB LEDs (English Red, Green and Blue) allow a combination of certain colors and effects provide video transmission often low resolution, because the LED curtain is by definition "low resolution".

LEDs, or light emitting diodes (Light Emitting Diode) are nothing more and nothing less than microchips that have the ability to emit light within the entire chromatic color spectrum.

Characteristics

These curtains LEDs can be used for indoor or outdoor, depending on the manufacturer. That's why many of the curtains LEDs are used for both shows as for fixed installations. To tell the truth, the difference is not much naked eye, only it changes the type of protection called IP, which is usually a curtain or LED frame must have a substance classified as IP65 protection (that by the way the fixtures also have equal ranking protection, which means they can withstand water and dust in any direction. As additional data protection means IP 68 said cluster LEDs are submersible, which is not the case).

Duration

The curtains LEDs do not differ from the typical duration of the LEDs. Initially and when I started to specialize in LEDs in the year 2004, the industry generally said that the LEDs would last 100.000 hours. Today, after a few years and with a little more experience, the industry has modified its initial stance and says that LEDs last until 50.000 hours or wear an expense power of up to 50%. This means that LEDs can last longer but more and have less intensity.

Weight

The weight of the curtains is one of the great advantages, since they are much lighter than panels LED screens. For example, a display curtain 600 1200 mm x can weigh up to 3 kilos, compared with an LED display panel that weighs approximately 50 and 100 kilos, depending on model. The weight issue is very important for the transport of the curtain, since the more light, the less will be paid in transportation.

Installation

This point is not usually one of the happiest, because the installation is quite complicated compared to the LED screens. While an LED curtain is installed in several hours (I have heard that depending on the scenario can take up to 9 hours), however, LEDs panels are installed in less than an hour.

Low cost

The LEDs curtains are by definition an alternative to LED displays, and therefore should be more economic. This is in theory because actually the LEDs curtains are more economical to have a lower density of pixels, for example, an LED curtain 36 mm is a pixel standard pitch, while pixel pitch for a LED display 36 mm is a horror, as for shows, today, is being preferred 7 or 10 virtual mm for outdoor events.

LED curtains are also cheaper because they offer low resolution, which will expand in the next point.

standard resolution of curtains

LED curtains are low resolution and you could say that your average work with 16.7 million colors. LED screens are high resolution, because they offer 4.4 trillion colors and reliable video playback.

conclusions

The LEDs curtains are neither better nor worse than the LED screens are different animal. They are used in addition to the LED screens, especially when there is not much budget to place LED screens one end of the stage, but want to provide more coverage on light surface. The curtains serve very fine for lighting effects, but still the industry is not well liked by the video projection.
