Video cameras whose main feature portability, continue to be one of the most developed products for industry. Therefore, some of the manufacturers presented their new references that will set the trend for the beginning of 2011.

Examples include the Sony PMW-500, the XA10 Canon, the Panasonic AG-HMC80PJ and JVC GY-HM750U, all characterized by being Electronic News Gathering or ENG.

Being compact, lightweight equipment, easy to use, with good technical quality, do not need a camera control unit, are some of the features that have made the ENG cameras are being used by most international news channels. Although initially they were exploited by reporters but later were expanded to other industry sectors.

Experience Sony
Over the past 2 months, Sony has expanded its range of camcorders XDCAM High Definition with the new PMW-500, which incorporates a solid state memory using SxS memory cards with 2 / 3 "Power HAD CCD. Also it has been introduced to the PMW-350 series.

Juan Punyed, Sales Director of Sony Latin America, said the PMW-500 is the first of the PMW series incorporating recording 4: 2: 2 HD.

These allow customers to choose between formats MXF XDCAM EX recording format HD or SD, depending on the infrastructure they have and their facilities.

High resolution
Panasonic introduced the high-resolution camera megapixel AG-HMC3PJ 80, offering multiple AVCCAM recording formats and enhanced professional functions stable.

The new XA10

Market response
According to the report from Sony, the new PMW-500 has been very well received and have numerous orders for that video camera, because they are aiming at the high recordings that need ease and speed of recording in solid state but they are seeing the compatibility with the standard XDCAM industry and optical recording in formats for air delivery and archiving.

Sony has sold about 6.000 video camera units of XDCAM series in Latin America, including XDCAM EX and XDCAM camcorders. They also have about 4.000 HD camcorders on the market, many being used for ENG applications.

Major Brands America use their cameras. Among them are TV Globo, Artear, Televisa, TV Record, Venevision, RCN, Caracol, TVN Chile, Albavisión, Amazon and Ecuavisa TV.
